Alright. That Does It!

A friend moved to a farm a few years ago. She was nice enough to send me some pictures of her chickens. This started out (as the photo was), with two chickens. One was on the other side of  this one and behind a bit. No matter what I did, the second chicken was just getting in the way. So finally I made it vamoose. Now I was left with an image that clearly has a broken rule: the chicken is headed right off the page! Compositionally, that's not supposed to be good. BUT, here's where rules are made to be broken.....I liked it this way! Lots of glazes and layers here. And she is hopping mad about something!

  1. PMS art! There was a time—blessedly over and done with now—when you could have used ME as your reference for this photo. I could have modeled for you for two weeks out of every four.

Do you glaze between layers? I'd love to know a tidbit or two about that, if you're willing.

  2. It's haphazard as far as glazing(at least on this). Glaze here, glaze there, paint over cuz I don't like it, glaze again, etc. Your description is hilarious!

  3. What a great attitude she has and because of it the composition works. It takes the viewer outside the painting to whatever she is ticked about and excites the imagination. Well done Laurie!
