"On the Move" and a new little soul!

I haven't painted much because of our new addition......except for a commission piece which I'll post once the recipients have it. I always hold my breath when I do a commission (especially one that has to capture an essence of an animal) until I show a picture of the painting and they love it. It happened, so ......good! No tweaking.
Anyways, this is a "one mark at a time" exercise,
just to get my hand moving on the canvas, and I like it.
And below is the newest member of our family, "Luddie". Short for Colonel Ludlow. He's a trip, and keeps us on our toes every minute. Like children, the early foundation is critical, so we're giving it our all. Wade is skeptical. That part will take a while, I'm afraid.

  1. Love this May Day posie!

Which was your first mark, which your last?

The contrast of soft light-filled colors against bold dark lines keeps calling my eyes back again and again. I find that my eye is drawn right into the heart of the painting first, and then, once my eyes have had a moment of anchoring there, they travel out into the soothing restfulness of the background.

And Luddie? Just too cute for words!

    1. First mark- top tulip. Third from right. A petal.
Last mark- the little twig on the left. It had looked out of balance. Thanks for the compliments, Dotty! Fun to get a painting finished. Luddie is settling in very nicely. Yay! Back to the studio....

  2. hi Laurie,
Love the light airy feeling of your purple tulips, it's hard to get that freshness with those deep tones, but you did it. that little colonel ludlow is a darling! the early stages are crucial, but it wont take long before he knows how he's expected to behave.

    1. Thanks Sally! I have to say that purple is not my favorite color, but something made me pull out the blues and reds. Glad it looks fresh. And Luddie- I agree. He's smart and is catching on to our way of life.

  3. Ahhh. Love this restful bouquet. The serene turquoise, the soft comforting greens, the warm bits of yellow light throughout. And those dreamy lavenders and purples. Thank you for sharing this joyful piece with us :) And Luddie... just want to scoop him up and hug him and give him kisses. Happy training to you Mama!

    1. Thanks, Sheila-you noticed the turquoise- that was toward the end when I became weary of purples! And you can come over any day to scoop Luddie up. He's a big fluff ball!
