Frill Free Zone

#23 of the challenge. I started this with one brushstroke that would become the first leaf on the left, and built from there, just enjoying the colors. I finished these leaves, and was happy with the reds in the stems, and the shadow on the vase, and pretty much all of it!
But then the unthinkable: "This can't really be finished." This was too easy, too fun. Too flowing. It needs a flower, or a tablecloth, or stripes on the tablecloth, or something. And yet my intuition said no. Funny how sometimes we feel we HAVE to go on. I decided to honor my intuition and listen to my oh so wise (not) voice!

  1. The concept of easy and fun is the goal!!! Looks finished to me, Laurie!

  2. Laurie, my immediate response to your painting was to draw in a deep nourishing breath and feel my shoulders relax. This piece is a hug of simplicity and directness. Brava!

  3. Simplicity is often the best choice and this is definitely a matter of 'less is more' This is just lovely - ps. I wish my 'just leave it voice' would speak louder.

  4. THIS is why I love your work so much. You make it looks so easy Laurie. So simple, and so, perfect. Sunny greens, cheerful blue, warmth somehow I can't quite figure. I wish I could do "clean" like this better, and stop getting lost in details. LOL. LOVE IT!!

    1. Oh I've been so lost in detail that I've had to call 911 to get me out!

  5. Your painting today jumped off Leslie's post, I had to get a closer look. I love it. I am working at simplifying my process and let me just say this is not easy!! I fuss and stroke and stroke and stroke... ugh!!! I'm beginning to realize though that maybe that's just my style, and I'm beginning to accept that. Plants have been my go to for this challenge. I do love your style!!

  8. Tr I don't think many people could make a simple green leaf plant look so compelling. I love the moss green and the soft blue background, but the piece retains strength with the dark outline and touches of deep red. Perfect!
