Birmingham Community House Fun

Wow, it's been a fun 2 weeks at the Birmingham Community House! Art camp for kids, and Canvas and Corks last night......."Downtown Winedown". The scene was inspired by one of my paintings, "At Rest Two". These are awesome! They did a great job, especially since it was a fairly complex pattern and we had limited time. Very fun! Thank you, Patty, Nevan, and Meg for help and contributing to a great night. And the kids? I think they learned a few things and had some fun. I know I did.   
The Community House is a nonprofit that helps communities by providing educational, cultural and wellness programs, and also scholarships to improve people’s personal and professional lives. I appreciate my association with them!

Karen's Butterflies

I was asked by my cousin to paint this as a surprise for his wife's birthday. Her father had passed away in this house and the next day, she sat on this chair and watched 3 white butterflies circling. She believes, as many people do, that white butterflies symbolize a departed loved one's visit. I didn't know if I could do it justice (he had sent me a photo). I found out that she cried when she saw it. I think it was a good cry!

3 Day Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting Workshop

If you register and pay by August 15^th the workshop fee will be discounted $50.00, so you pay $325.00! After August 15^th the fee is $375.00. The workshop requirement is a minimum of nine paid artists must be met by August 31^st.
     Join nationally renowned artist Becky Joy for a three day plein air workshop in historical Perrysburg, Ohio. Attending artists will paint along the Maumee River on the scenic grounds of The 577 Foundation.  The workshop will begin with a private tour of the twelve acre grounds.  Following the tour we will gather in the studio where　Becky will demonstrate her process, discuss her decisions, as well as share her overwhelmingly requested secrets on how to paint brilliant sunsets.  On day one, artists will work on exercises about color, texture, and how to develop your own unique voice in your work.  Emphasis will be placed on how to set a mood or glow to turn an ordinary landscape piece into something extraordinary.  The next two days will be dedicated to painting on the 577 Foundation grounds where artists will receive individual instruction and attention from Becky.  The workshop will close with a critique where Becky will assess each artist’s progress and offer constructive criticism and suggestions going forward.  The number of artists in the workshop will be a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 16.

Visiting Artist Workshop Cancellation Polices
We rely on an accurate attendance count to make important arrangements for our workshop. If a registrant needs to withdraw from a workshop, they should inform us no later than 30 days prior to the start of the workshop for a full refund. Workshop registrants who cancel between 15 and 30 days prior to the start of the workshop will be charged a minimum of ½ of the original fee, unless another wait-listed participant can fill the spot. For cancellation requests made 15 days or less to the beginning of the workshop, fees will not be refunded unless another wait-listed participant can fill the spot. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop for any reason, including canceling if the minimum enrollments are not met, in which case all workshop fees will be refunded to participants. Notifications will be made two weeks prior to the start date of the workshop. We cannot be responsible for airline tickets or other travel costs in the event of a cancellation so make your hotel and travel reservations accordingly. Full payment of the workshop is due in order to reserve a space.

These next three paintings have been created in the last week or so. Why do I say that? Because I'm back to my studio on a more regular basis. No wonder I'm feeling so good! I am so very lucky and blessed to be able to go to my own space and get lost. Having your own space, big or small, to just regroup, recharge, and reflect, is something I treasure and wish for everyone.

I painted this from an old photo. It is a young woman I knew years ago. I don't usually do portrait-like paintings (because it's so intimidating), but I thought it would be good for me to go outside of my comfort zone. And it doesn't even look like the girl, but oh well! It's on dailypaintworks for $48.00.

Another fun night at the Birmingham Community House. "Tipsy Tulips" was the theme again, and the creativity just flowed!

 

I am so lucky......we are living in a new house (to us), and this is right outside my window! It is oil, 8x10 on gessobord, and is available on dailypaintworks for $68.00

This painting has been revised. I don't know why, except that something wasn't sitting well. But once I started "fiddling", it became a different painting. Frustrating! I bet this has happened to many of you (?!). It is oil, 11x14 on canvas, and is available on dailypaintworks for $58.00
