Her Own Pace

Does your brain ever say to you, "should do this, should do that, shouldn't do this, shouldn't do that, move faster, slow down, be more productive, be nicer, be smarter, be wiser, don't eat those Twizzlers, exercise more", and the list goes on. Well this woman has decided that she is done with it all! And it can happen at any age.
She isn't worrying about what others think, or if she's less than perfect, or if she's not keeping up with the pace of the world. She just ate a Twizzler, she's happily moving along, she's important and valuable to the people she cares about. She's taking care of the important stuff, she says no when she needs to, and doesn't waste valuable time any more (time that she'll never get back, as my daughter has said), she doesn't have to go to any more Tupperware parties or the like!
(no offense to Tupperware, but I think most women will get that!)
This woman is in a good place! Am I there yet? No. But moving closer. I should be closer..haha

  1. 1. It all becomes clear to me now. I thought I was drawn to you because of your art. In fact, the bond is even more elemental: we share a Twizzlers addiction.
    2. At one of the very few Tupperware parties I ever attended, I barely had my scorn and cynicism under wraps. And then didn't I win the door prize!!
    3. Love your color block style here. LOVE Twizzler lady.
    4. From a book called Gifts of Age, compiled by Charlotte Painter(!), these words from a woman named Alice Lindbergh Snyder:

Let other people worry about brittle bones if they wanted to -- that was their lookout. Or the impropriety of a woman who sticks her fingers between her teeth to hail a cab. Let them think her a zany eccentric if they liked. She was through neglecting the part of herself that wanted to play.

    1. Nice! Thanks Dotty, for all of the above. But especially the whistling part. I am the loundest whistler of anyone who has dared to challenge me. Ever since I was little (huge tomboy), I have had a whistle (thumb and third finger)that can cause serious ear damage if I am too close to people (exaggerating, but just a little!). Crazy whistle! And I love it that you love Twizzlers! Thanks for the great comments.

  2. I doubt if men have the problem of shoulda, coulda, woulda. Could be wrong but I think women plaque themselves more. I am here grabbing a handful of peanut M&M's, and taking a moment to enjoy your art :) (supposed to be getting skinny for Rachel's wedding coming up. LOL)

    1. Hahahahah!!! Thanks, Sheila- I get ALL of that! Enjoy those peanut M and M's. And thank you for enjoying my art. Yes, I can relate to the getting skinny for a wedding or the like. Usually I wait til a couple days ahead, and then pray for a miracle!

  3. I definitely do things at my own pace - which is pretty slow due to COPD - but I don't worry about what others might think. And if my brain starts with the 'should' routine I usually go and read for a while. The painting is great and the sentiment is better!

  4. Good for you, Val-for going at your own pace, and sounds like you've got a handle on the "shoulds". What a waste of time to sit around and think about some of the things we worry about! Thanks for the compliments!
