I never throw away anything that has my paint on it, and this is no exception. I found pieces of painted fabric (silk or satin type fabric) from many years ago. So I was in the mood for a collage. Dotty Seiter, (http://dottyseiter.blogspot.com) and Sheila Delgado (http://www.sheiladelgado.com)
have both inspired me to do another collage. I watch both of them trying anything at all, each in unique ways; layers and layers, paints, ink, paper, cardboard, etc. So thanks, guys! I used those pieces and then filled in the rest with paint, while trying to keep the original parts as is.
I'll seal it with a varnish. It's painted on the 1 1/2 inch sides and is ready to hang. I always have a degree of satisfaction when I've recycled something. Oh, and I love that Patsy Cline song!
Laurie: AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteWhen I opened your blog, today's posted painting stopped me in my visual tracks. Very captivating. And all that before I even read your post! Thanks for the shout-out to Sheila and me : )
This painting just asks me to go back in again and again to explore all that it has to offer. I love it!
Do you have photos of any of the process? Of the scraps you started with? Did you use matte medium to affix the fabric to your canvas?
Love the title, too!
Oh, I wish I could remember to photograph the process. It never occurs to me and I think it's because I never know what it will turn out to be. But maybe that's the reason to do it, and I will! Thanks, Dotty. Yes I did use matte medium.
DeletePatsy is I my head, Love her to pieces! Laurie this is so gorgeous. I stared at it for a bit (enlarged)before I read the post. The texture is wonderful, and all of your gorgeous colors... they are captivating! I love the loose blooms, and jagged leaves. Those shapes create movement, a slight breeze perhaps. As always your shadows are so alive! Just love that small patch of purple that wraps around the corner :) I am so honored by your shout out Laurie, thank you :) And Dotty, well we both know Dotty is fearless and so inspirational in her explorations! Wishing you a joyful and creative week Laurie!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sheila! And the purple? A spur of the moment that I kinda liked, too!
DeleteWhat a clever girl you are! This is inspiring me to have a look through my fabric and paper left-overs. Thanks Laurie - a joy as always
ReplyDeleteThanks, Val! I used to do lots of collages and I forgot how fun they are!
