A painting and a collage

The top painting is from a photo I took and have painted from in the past. It's called "Remember Me". The next one is the one I referred to recently, as a citrasolv collage, and is called "Daydream". Although I've created lots of collages in my day, I've never done one with Citrasolv papers. Talk about fun! In fact everyone in my class did one on Monday. They did a phenomenal job! My last class is Monday, and after that I'll post lots of their work. I love it that they are so enthusiastic and talented! To achieve the beautiful papers with Citrasolv, you basically soak pages from National Geographic magazines (the older ones work best). There are lots of You Tube videos on how to do it. The Citrasolv has a reaction with the specific inks. The image, which becomes obliterated, turns into gorgeous designs! I would give it a try if I were you!
Both these pieces have been submitted to a juried art show, so my fingers are crossed!

  1. You're in! Who is not gonna love these paintings, Laurie?!
Great effect that Citrasolv has on the pages. It's like magic. Looking forward to seeing your students' work, too.
And love those babies!! Great photo.

  2. This jury of one says you're in. My face lit up when I saw your name in my inbox, and then positively RADIATED once I saw your paintings!

You've got me very curious about Citrasolv. I used to do a different kind of collage that involved plain old matte medium but also worked best with old National Geographic pages (goodness only knows what wonderful toxic chemicals they embody!).

How are those babies doing? That sidebar photo got a HUGE SMILE from me.

    1. Thanks, Dotty! Yes the citrasolv disolves the ink from the magazine when soaked for a while. I may do more- it was fun!
the Babies are AWESOME! I can't stay away. Haven't painted in a while now, but geez, when they're bundled up on my chest and cooing? Forget it!

  3. These are both fabulous Laurie. I like the softness of the top piece, almost as if your usual style was glossed over while damp - very cool look. I am going to be checking out the Citrasolv videos as your painting makes it look fascinating. Great work and I am sure you will be juried into the show - good luck!

    1. Thanks, Pattie. I bought Citrasolv from Amazon, because I couldn't find a local store that sold it. You Tube has a million videos about it. I only did it once, but it's fun! You soak pages from National Geographic in it until the images are obliterated and only beautiful designs remain. After dry, they are wonderful papers for collage!

  5. I was so pleased to see something from you in my inbox. Both of these artworks are so intriguing and so different from each other. The abandoned home evokes such a strong emotion with its path rising up to it. Beautiful glowing colors yet the subject is very nostalgic and bittersweet. "Daydream" is a unique work of art, so many delicious layers of marks and colors and the mysterious effects of the Citrsolv paper, and then the painting of the boats and buildings and person, a narrative that is open to interpretation, reality and dream fused. Really fantastic, Laurie! Kudos!!!

  6. Wonderful surprises Laurie :) Congrats and Best wishes! The first one says home, no doubt about it. Those soft colors all coming together. Love it! And the next. Well, got me stuck on Youtube watching videos. Really interesting!!! Those textures!!! I love the galactic, otherworldly, daydreamy feel. These are both so fabulous Laurie!!
