# 14 of the challenge. It's frigid here in Michigan. And windy with blowing snow. And we haven't seen much sun lately. So when I approached my studio, I knew I wanted to pick up corals, oranges, and yellows. Ahhhhh, I feel warmer already.
I'm with ya: let's get AWAY! You did it—this painting says bah! to frigid, bah! to wind, bah! to gray skies. Is this painting pure invention, or did you have some bit of a reference. As always, love your juxtaposition of positive and negative space, your pops of underpainting brightness, your depth of field.
Thanks, Dotty. No reference picture except for a very similar painting I did years ago. Same colors, etc. No reference for that either. Sometimes I use one, sometimes I just "go at it"!
Laurie - I can almost smell the enticing fragrance of the orange blossoms from here! Sorry about the frigid temps. :o( ...not trying to be coy but we are just getting ready to pick oranges from our tree... Sending sunshine and warmth!!!
Shazam! I'm awake now! I really love the cobalt at the bottom. Not the first thing that caught my eye of course, but they rest in those brilliant transitions. Why do I suddenly want a cold drink with a tiny umbrella in it? (chilly here too today)
I LOVE your palette! Your color is so vibrant, the paintings just glow, especially the oranges...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Corinna! I love these colors, too.

ReplyDeleteI'm with ya, Sheila. And I love the word "Shazam!" Hope you don't mind if I borrow it for the title of a painting! Thanks
DeleteSaw this in my sidebar and it glistened my whole page - really pops! Nice painting to do on a snowy, windy day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pattie!
